Choose by weather first
Cangshan shapes the entire west side of Dali, and weather changes quickly. Start early, check current conditions, and keep a backup plan for lower walks or old town time.
Cableways are not a shortcut to certainty
Cableways can make the mountain accessible, but they do not remove altitude, cloud, or wind. Pick the route that matches your comfort level, not the most dramatic viewpoint.
The best mountain day is unforced
Leave enough time after the mountain for rest. Dali works best when a Cangshan morning can turn into a quiet late lunch, a lake view, or a cafe table.
